Rural electrification and changes in employment structure in Cambodia

This study analyzes the effects of electrification on employment structure in Cambodia, which is still its early stages and structural change. We examine movement out agriculture through three categories nonagricultural employment: self-employment, wage employment, unpaid work. To mitigate problem non-random placement electricity, inverse probability treatment weighting regression adjustment (IPWRA) method used to conduct two estimations, one with individual-level repeated cross-section data other district-level panel data, taking advantage a large representative sample from Cambodia General Population Census 1998 2008. Our finds that labor away dominated by an increase self-employment activities. Access electricity increases for both men women 10–11 percentage points over decade. also confirm existence small external rural possibly due low rates among households.
